ACS Heroes of Hope
In September of 2007 I was selected as a Hero of Hope for the American Cancer Society.
The American Cancer Society, High Plains Division, Heroes of Hope: Profiles of Courage Program is a survivorship initiative for the entire High Plains division. The Heroes of Hope and their Profiles of Courage provide a highly visible symbol of personal victory over cancer and encourage support and participation in the programs of the American Cancer Society. The 28 selected Heroes of Hope for 2008 have each triumphed over cancer, made significant contributions to cancer control and impacted the lives of other people through our journey.
This effort has three primary goals:
-To identify cancer survivors with exemplary involvement in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life
-To broaden the reach, effectiveness and outreach of survivorship year-round; and,
-To develop a broad and diverse group of Relay for Life Survivor spokespersons.
Heroes of Hope:
Help people,
Empower others to spread the word,
Raise awareness about the American Cancer Society,
Offer HOPE,
Encourage involvement, and
Save lives.
I am truly honored to be part of the class of 2007 Heroes of Hope. Each Hero has their own remarkable story to share with their community about how they benefited from the American Cancer Society during their cancer journey and how they plan to fight back against this disease.
My first Hero of Hope assignment was an interview on the KLOU 103.3 Radio-athon to Tackle Cancer on August 16th. The file is 46M. Download it here.
