Amanda Dugger

About Me

Welcome to amandacarter.com. My name is Amanda Dugger (fka Carter) and I have been a cancer survivor since May 2000. I started this website many years ago to communicate information about my diagnosis and progress through my own cancer treatments to family and friends. Today it’s a source of cancer awareness and support to fellow patients and their families.

In December 1999 I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma during my third semester of College at Southern Illinois University over Christmas break. During my treatments this website served as an avenue of therapy to document my journey through diagnosis, treatment and finally remission. I have been in remission from cancer since May 2000.

Since remission I have participated in the Relay for Life, an American Cancer Society fund raising event to raise money for cancer research and patient support programs. However on December 4, 2005, I was given a new reason to Relay. At the age of 55 my mother suddenly passed away from AML Luekemia.  She was never given a chance to fight the disease, we never new she was sick and I miss her dearly.

In 2007  I was selected to represent the Eastern Missouri Region as a Hero of Hope for the American Cancer Society. Twenty eight Heroes of Hope were selected, representing fourteen different regions and covering six different states. Please select the Hero of Hope link at the right for more information on this very special program that I am honored to be part of.
